Sarah Wyndham is put in an impossible situation in Ancient Deception. Like some medieval princess, she’s being forced into a dynastic marriage to someone she despises paying off her step-father’s debts.

When I looked for someone who resembled how I’d imagine Sarah would look, I settled on Rose Byrne, an Australian actress whose remarkable versatility includes comedies like the movie Bridesmaids and playing Gloria Steinem in the TV series Mrs America.

At the start of her story, Sarah deliberately tries to be anonymous to avoid notice, and Rose, in her early years, wanted to be a quiet, serious actor. As Sarah assumes her own personality as the story progresses, she comes out of her shell. And Rose is also well out of her shell, with her recently announced role playing New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in a movie about the Christchurch mosque massacre (a movie that may never get made because of serious opposition to it).

Five Things You May Not Know About Sarah

1. She conceived of her secret plan to strip her stepfather of his wealth before she ran away, but could only seriously implement it once she was free of his watchful eye.
2. Like Kaleo, she has an intensely unselfish and loyal character, which makes her willing to sacrifice her own happiness for her sister Petra’s safety.
3. Shame dogs her because of the treatment of Clifford Jensen’s brutality, and she is convinced no man will ever want her as a wife.
4. She loves fashion, and it is a genuine loss for her to have to play a mouse when she first arrives at Pike Consulting.
5. Her favorite color is red, and she has promised herself if she ever gets free of her father and Jensen she will wear one of the fashionable bright shades–from vermillion red to cerise – every day.
